All required car rental insurances
All required car rental insurances like 3rd party responsibility, CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), TW (Theft Waiver) and Bail Bond (where applicable) are included in our car rental rates. The vehicle's car rental insurance is subject to an insurance excess value : When you collect the car rental at Porto, you'll be asked to leave a credit card deposit to the value of the car rental excess : (Depending on the type of car you select) between EUR 750.00 and EUR 1250.00. Providing you return the vehicle undamaged at the end of the car rental, this value is returned to your credit card in full. In the unlikely event that you damage the car rental vehicle, your maximum liability is limited to the car rental insurance excess value. The insurance excess for each car at Porto is explained in detail in our section What's Not Included?
Local car rental taxes & delivery charges.
Our car rental rates at Porto are fully inclusive of local sales taxes (18.00% in Portugal).
Arrival times for your car rental.
Our car rental rates include collection of your car rental inside normal office hours at Porto.
Fuel is not included at Porto!
The fuel that you consume during your car rental is obviously not included in our our published car rental rates! On arrival at the Porto car rental station, you will collect the car rental vehicle with a full tank of fuel against a credit card deposit. At the end of the car rental, return the car rental vehicle with a full tank to Porto to get a refund.
Insurance Excess deposit.
As explained above in What's Included, the car rental vehicle's insurance at Porto is subject to an car rental insurance excess deposit (depending on the type of car rental vehicle you select) between EUR 750.00 and EUR 1250.00. Providing you return the car rental vehicle undamaged, this value is refunded to your credit card in full. In the unlikely event that you damage the car rental vehicle, your maximum liability is limited to the deposit paid.

Lost car rental vehicle keys.
Vehicle keys are chip-coded and are costly and timely items to replace. If you lose the car rental vehicle's key, you will be obliged to pay for its replacement (approximately EUR 120.00) plus any associated transport costs in connecting you with a new vehicle key. More importantly, your holiday car rental at Porto may be seriously affected while you wait for a new key to be prepared for your car rental vehicle. Please take good care of the car rental vehicle key while you're on holiday in Portugal!
Using the wrong fuel type for your car rental vehicle.
Putting gasoline into a diesel car (or vice versa) requires the engine to be stripped down and cleaned. If you put the wrong fuel into the car rental vehicle at Porto, expect a hefty garage bill and several days with your car "off-the-road" while the car is repaired.
Blow-outs are at your own risk
If you have a puncture during the rental the car hire company will hold you responsible for the repair/replacement cost. All our cars are delivered with a road-worthy set of tyres which are inspected prior to each delivery. Typically, bad parking or driving off-road are the most common causes of punctures during a rental period.
Off-road or negligent use.
Our car rental vehicles at Porto are rented for use on the public highways of Portugal. They cannot be used off-road. Although a very rare ocurrance, we'd like you to be aware that damage to the underside of the car rental vehicle, frequently caused by negligent driving or off-road use at Porto (we have had occasion to have to lift car rental vehicles out of dried-up river beds!) is your responsibility. Drunk driving a hire car is considered negligent use.
Traffic fines.
Traffic fines, speeding tickets incurred at the wheel of your car rental vehicle at Porto are at your own risk.
Vehicle glass & locks.
It is a sad reality that in most holiday resorts in Portugal, auto-theft is a day-to-day ocurrance. If you park up the car rental vehicle with personal items inside and, as a consequence, the glass or locks are damaged in an attempt to steal your personal effects, you will be responsible for the associated repair costs to the car rental vehicle. We strongly recommend that you park the vehicle in supervised car parks/garages in the major cities and never leave any personal item inside the car rental vehicle.
Damage to the vehicle's underside.
Damage to the vehicle's underside is the responsibility of the renter. Although a very rare ocurrance, damage caused by driving off-road, impacts from rocks or other items to the underside can cause considerable damage to the vehicle. If this situation arises, you will be responsible for the repair costs.
Baby Seats
Baby seats are suitable for new-born babies until approximately 6 months of age. Baby seats are normally available on car rental vehicles from Porto on request. There is a charge of EUR 20.00 per week for these seats which is payable on arrival at Porto. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car rental.
Child seats
Child seats are suitable for young children from approximately 6 months of age until 2-3 years of age. Child seats are supplied for car rental vehicles from Porto on request. There is a charge of EUR 20.00 per week for these seats which is payable on arrival at Porto. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car rental.
Booster Seats
Booster seats are suitable for young children from approximately 2 years until 5 years of age. Booster seats are supplied for car rental vehicles from Porto on request. There is a charge of EUR 20.00 per week for these seats which is payable on arrival at Porto. You must reserve babyseats at the same time as you reserve your car rental.
Additional Drivers
You may add additional drivers to your car rental on arrival in Porto. These are payable locally at Porto at EUR 20.00 per rental.
Buy-out of the Vehicle's Insurance Excess
The car rental vehicles at Porto are sold with an insurance excess. This is explained in the section Whats's Not Included? above.Instead of leaving a credit card deposit to cover your car rental insurance excess at Porto, you may opt to purchase additional insurance locally to "buy-out" the excess value - effectively removing your liability for vehicle bodywork damage. This option, depending on the car rental vehicle selected, costs between EUR 7.00 and EUR 14.00 per per day. You do not need to prebook insurance excess buy-out, simply decide and pay locally on arrival at the car rental station in Porto when you arrive in Portugal.
Purchasing insurance excess buy-out is not a "licence to kill" and you will still be responsible for items like tyre, wheel, glasss or damage to the underside of the car rental vehicle. The car rental company may still require you to leave a credit card imprint to cover extensions to your car rental contract or traffic fines. See our section What's Not Included for further details.
Cross border charges
You can take your car rental vehicle from Porto to tour outside of Portugal. Vehicles rented at Porto can visit Spain but require additional insurance as follows You must however return to the car rental company station specified on your car rental voucher in Portugal at the end of the car rental period. You may not rent vehicles one-way from Portugal, leaving them in another country.
